I really appreciate the part about "previously on"! I'm wary of reading (not ordering, because I want my favourite authors to eat occasionally) - wary of reading a book in a new series because not matter how much I enjoy a book, I'll forget more than I remember.
Haven't started on the new series yet, for that reason, but if there are recaps somewhere, I'll move them up on my pile of future joy (I refuse to feel shame for not having read all my books. I will, someday. Maybe, in the afterlife, before moving on, you have to finish all the books you still want to read, and that will be a looong time for me)

I encountered and loved Memory, Sorrow and Thorn in HS; didn't find Gene Wolfe until college (although not for want of trying).
I too miss the "what has gone before" in some of the older (usually) fantasy series - thanks for linking the recaps!
